OpenAI today announced the OpenAI Jobs Platform, an AI-powered hiring service scheduled to launch by mid-2026, putting the company in direct competition with Microsoft-owned LinkedIn. The platform will use AI to match job candidates with employers, and will include a dedicated track for small businesses and local governments to access AI talent, according to a blog post by Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of Applications.

Simo, the former head of Instacart, said the company is also expanding OpenAI Academy with a certification program called OpenAI Certifications, covering AI fluency levels from basics to prompt engineering. The program will integrate with ChatGPT’s Study mode, which turns the chatbot into a tutor. Working with Walmart, OpenAI says it aims to certify 10 million Americans by 2030 — framing the effort as part of its commitment to the White House’s AI literacy push.

The announcement comes as OpenAI strengthens ties with Washington—the same week CEO Sam Altman joined other tech executives to meet with President Trump at the White House to discuss AI. The jobs platform and certifications are the latest moves by OpenAI to expand beyond its core ChatGPT product, as the company also reportedly explores a browser and social media app.

Simo acknowledged the risk of AI disrupting jobs, saying in her post that while OpenAI cannot prevent that, it can help people become fluent in AI and connect them with companies that need their skills.
